Build Self Control

Build Self Control

1. Start small.

Don’t try to take on too much all at once. Start small and work your way up. Set realistic goals for yourself and focus on those first. For example, if you’re trying to quit smoking, start by cutting back on the number of cigarettes you smoke each day, and then gradually work your way down.

2. Be mindful.

When we practice mindfulness, we’re better able to recognize our triggers and resist the temptation to act on them. Take some time each day to sit quietly and focus on your breath. Notice your thoughts and feelings without judgment and observe the urge to act impulsively.

3. Focus on the long-term.

When we focus on the long-term benefits of our actions, it’s easier to resist short-term temptations. Think about the bigger picture and the rewards that come with having self control.

4. Take breaks.

It’s important to give yourself a break from time to time. Take a few minutes each day to rest and recharge. This will help you stay focused and increase your self control.

5. Ask for help.

If you’re struggling with self control, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Talk to a friend, family member, or therapist about your struggles and get advice on how to stay on track.

6. Reward yourself.

When you practice self control, reward yourself for your efforts. It will help motivate you to keep going and stay on track.

Self control takes time, effort, and dedication. It’s not something that comes naturally to most of us, so practice and patience are essential. But with these tips, you can start to build self control and reach your goals.
